A Few Acrylic Works…

Posted in Uncategorized on May 31, 2006 by Samuel John Klein Portlandiensis

I realized I have yet to post some acrylic works. Here are a few details from a series of 6 small paintings (each one is 6″ x 6″). I wanted it to portray the idea of rockets being used once then disposed of at sea only to be later relaunched via a whale. Nature is a great recycler!

My submission to Illustration Friday’s theme of cake. Really though, I was prepared to make any excuse to cure my jones for drawing Hungry Hungry Hippos. Done in pencil, pen, brush pen, conté and Photoshop. A bigger version and the whole story can be seen/read here.

Thomas Hardy

This was an illustration that I did for a medical magazine. It was for a feature story on the personal relationships of famous historical figures and this was for an article about the English writer Thomas Hardy.

Starry Nights

Posted in Uncategorized on May 30, 2006 by Samuel John Klein Portlandiensis

This is my last drawing from the draw-a-thon. It was so hot inside the event. Not only was it packed with 50 people but there was hot lights to illuminate the models. The temperature felt like 95 degrees inside. At one point I went outside into the cool night air. It was so nice I decided to do a drawing outside. I’ve said it before, drawing in the dark at night is tough but so was being in that hot bar. So I gave it a try. It actually came out pretty good. I should try this night stuff more often.

Sketches from the Moleskine

Posted in Uncategorized on May 30, 2006 by Samuel John Klein Portlandiensis

A few new sketches from my Moleskine, these are done in the medium size moleskine with a cheap black pen. Some pencil stuff thrown in here and there, smudged around. I usually do these to experiment with lines and shapes knowing they don’t have to be finished illustrations. I find it the best way to discover new things, textures and ideas.
